First job
I worked for a year in Dubai as deputy editor on a business publication covering the telecommunications industry in the Middle East, North Africa and South Asia.

I then moved to Germany to be with my husband Erik and continued working for my Dubai publishing company as a freelancer, subbing the telecoms magazine plus a logistics/supply chain publication.

The story so far
Last year I launched my own business selling modern cloth nappies in the German market. They are more economical, environmentally friendly and healthier for the baby than disposable nappies and are really popular in the English-speaking countries.

I have an online shop that I run from home, as I am a mother to a two-year-old girl and that is officially my full-time occupation.

Our website is available in both the English and German languages and we have customers all over Germany, as well as in Luxembourg, Austria, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Belgium and Denmark.

Sure, selling nappies is a far cry from reporting about politics or business news! But I definitely use the skills everyday that I acquired during my time at QUT such as public speaking (even though my German is not perfect, I have the confidence to sell to people and talk convincingly even though I know I’m making grammatical errors), writing persuasive texts, designing a website and brochures, communicating via social media, networking and developing contacts etc.
