Melbourne was ready to celebrate. Then, it rained on the AFL Players Parade! But another tradition, Grand Final-eve training, was a hot ticket for fans.

Sam Wilson reports.

Fans on both sides of the trenches, didn’t let the conditions dampen their spirits.

Ten thousand diehard supporters flooded Punt Road, Richmond’s training ground, for a brief glimpse of their heroes on field.

The Tigers are vying for their second flag in three years and this fan wants to add another date to the face.

VOX 1: “Eleven tigers actually tattooed on me, I’ve got the sideburns as the premiership years. Jesus Christ in a Richmond jumper on the top of my skull.”

However, Richmond players aren’t getting too far ahead of themselves.

Damien Hardwick, Tigers Coach: “It’s a hard, tough, brutal industry and it’s a hard, tough, brutal game. The side that goes hardest for the longest is going to probably win tomorrow. We’re both very proud clubs, we’re both looking forward to the opportunity. It’s going to be a ding dong battle.”

Their opponents Greater Western Sydney are the underdogs, but getting plenty of backing from those who won’t go with Richmond.

They’ve only been in the competition for eight years but grand final hype doesn’t worry them.

Leon Cameron, Giants Coach: “It’s going to be different tomorrow, because we’re going into uncharted territory because we haven’t been here before, but our guys are looking forward. I think they will just play with freedom that they’ve grown up with.”

Over 100,000 fans will flock to the MCG for the Grand Final.

Inside the ground most of the support will probably go with Richmond.

But it’s true Australians love an underdog and GWS will love the tag.
