Following their historic Grand Final victory on the weekend the Broncos’ Women’s team has had another major win. The 2018 Inaugural NRLW premiers were honoured for their success with the Keys to the City.

Claudine Blondeau reports.

It’s a momentous day for the undefeated Brisbane Broncos’ Women’s champions.

Ali Brigginshaw, Team Captain: “This is just a surreal feeling to come here and see all the girls here that want to meet us and that’s why we play the game.”

Being presented the Keys to the City is the highest honour a Lord Mayor can give.

Graham Quirk, Lord Mayor: “Today, ladies, and I think this season, you have certainly earned this accolade.”

But the players have put in the hard yards to get here.

Kate Daly, Ali’s Partner: “She’s worked so hard to get to this point and yeah, she deserves, and the whole team, deserves to be here and deserve to win the trophy and premiership.”

Their success is a positive reminder for young women across Australia.

Annastacia Palaszczuk, Premier: “This is basically saying women can do anything.”

Supporters of the game have high hopes all this attention will encourage more fans to the 2019 Women’s NRL competition, pushing the game forward to new heights.

Ali Brigginshaw, Team Captain: “We’ve got so much more we can learn and we’ve only reached half our limits now, um, with that small competition.”
