It’s a fight that’s been on the cards for some time.
Jeff Horn’s getting back into the ring, this time, against Anthony Mundine.
After months of to-ing and fro-ing, Mundine finally agreed to take on the Brisbane favourite.
But, it may come with a hefty price tag.
Horn’s Team had Mundine sign off on a unique financial penalty system.
Dean Lonergan, Horn’s Promoter: “If Mundine comes in over the 71 kilo limit that has been set for this fight, the first kilo is worth $350,000. Every kilo after that is worth half a million dollars.”
But regardless, Horn’s trainer Glenn Rushton, is confident about his boy’s chances.
Glenn Rushton, Horn’s Trainer: “My job is to take the Hornet and to turn him, into this fight, into the Super Hornet. He will be bigger, he will be better and he will be stronger.”
Queensland Premier, Annastacia Palaszczuk, backs the bout.
Annastacia Palaszczuk, Queensland Premier: “We want now Brisbane and South East Queensland to come out and support out local home grown hero.”
The match is the result of a partnership between Suncorp and Tourism and Events Queensland.
Kate Jones, Tourism Minister: “We are very confident that this will be yet another major event for Brisbane and for Queensland.”
Horn delivered a shock win against Manny Pacquiao last year at the same grounds.
Jeff Horn, Boxer: “I think I enjoyed it a lot better fighting in a stadium and an atmosphere like this, and I can’t wait to do it again.”
With thousands of fans expected to travel from interstate for the bout, organisers are predicting a sell-out, with 30,000 tickets set to be released next week.
