Quantum physics can be a difficult subject to understand, even for those who study it.

But one scientist thinks it’s the perfect topic for babies.

Chris Ferrie has already written a number of children’s books about science and today he read a selection to a crowd of little fans in Brisbane.

For many it was the first time hearing his newest title, Quantum Physics for Babies.

Chris Ferrie, Author: “So I started writing the books when they were young and I just wanted something for them that was about science.”

What started out as a family-driven project has become a popular phenomenon in Australia.

With some parents reading the books every night, at the request of their tiny scientists.

Child: “ball, ball.”

Ellie Smith, Mother: “Yeah he loves books so we got some of these.”

Lifelong learning has to start with a single step.

For the future scientists here at the State Library, these colourful picture books are just the beginning.
