This weekend’s Gold Coast 600 is already off to an exciting start, with Volvo’s Scott McLaughlin posting the fastest time in a furious opening practice session.

He surprised everyone and seems bent on making up for an incident at Bathurst.

McLaughlin topped the first practice session by just one one-hundredth of a second.

He clearly wants to make up for Bathurst where, Jamie Whincup made contact with him… knocking him out of the race.

Scott McLaughlin Volvo Driver: “Yeah, good start. The car is good. Straight out of the box, it was really nice to drive. I’ve got a bit of a spring in my step.”

Supercars series leader Shane van Gisbergen was second fastest ahead of fellow Holden driver David Reynolds.

The eventual Bathurst winner Will Davidson says he’s feeling good about the Gold Coast 600 and wants another podium finish.

Will Davidson, Holden Driver: “It’s a new weekend, we’ve just got to get on with it. It’s good to get back in the car. You quickly get reminded that this joint is brutal.”

The second practice session was won by Tony D’Alberto.

The hair-raising circuit will host two 3 hundred kilometre races over the weekend.

Nearly two-hundred thousand people are expected to attend.
