Friends of Brisbane woman Maureen Boyce have begun paying tribute to the popular socialite.

Police are continuing to investigate how the former model and Fashions on the Field enthusiast died.

Detectives were back at the luxury Kangaroo Point apartment today where the body of 68 year old socialite Maureen Boyce was found.

The mother of two was well known for her modelling work in the 1970s and was a regular at elite social events.

She was described as colourful, happy and jovial.

Early this morning, police released a man from custody after questioning him for several hours.

The 63 year old man who was staying with Ms Boyce found her body, reportedly with a stab wound to the abdomen.

Act Det Insp Tony Geary, South Brisbane Central Crime Group: “A number of items have been located and obviously being forensically examined at this time.”

Police are appealing for anyone who saw or heard anything suspicious to contact crime stoppers.
