It’s young talent time at the Queensland Ballet.

The company has started auditioning for one lucky young dancer to take part in its next big production.

Anna Hawke reports.

One of the world’s most accomplished dancers is casting his eye to the future.

Queensland Ballet’s Artistic Director, Li Cunxin, is looking for one young dancer to take part in his company’s upcoming performance of the Nutcracker.

Li Cunxink, Qld Ballet, Artistic Director: “We have this incredible competition to give them this once in a lifetime opportunity to work and perform with the professional ballet stars on stage.”

The competition is open to boys and girls aged between three and 13 and runs until early November.

Applications can be submitted via the Suncorp Ballet Star website.

There’ll only be one winner, but 10 finalists will also get to spend time with the company.

Why would you love to win the competition?

VOX 1: “Cause I love ballet”.

VOX 2: “Because I’d be in a part that would light up my world, that I’d really like to do.”

The kids will be working with some of Queensland’s best dancers but it’s not experience that they’re looking for.

Li Cunxin, Qld Ballet, Artistic Director: “It’s about passion, passion for this beautiful art form and big dreams to be able to tell us what their dreams are.”

And what would Li Cunxin have thought of the competition when he was young?

Li Cunxin: “I would’ve died and gone to heaven if there was such an opportunity that existed in my time.”
