As the new Ministers arrived at Canberra’s Government House this morning, there was a sense of change and excitement for Australians.
The Prime Minister says his team was selected on merit, and he did not want to be compared to the choices of his predecessor.
Malcolm Turnbull, Prime Minister: “A ministry where composition and focus reflect our determination to ensure that Australia seizes the opportunities of this, the most exciting times in human history.”
First to be sworn in was now Leader in the Senate, and Attorney General, George Brandis.
There are now five women in the Cabinet, including Australia’s first female Defence Minister, Marise Payne.
The appointment puts Senator Payne in the national security inner circle, supervising border security and having a large part in our role in the Middle East.
Another first, the new Assistant Treasurer and Small Business Minister Kelly O’Dwyer is the first woman in the Cabinet within the treasury portfolio.
As expected, Scott Morrison is now our Federal Treasurer.
He’s also promising Australians he will stop the debt and build jobs.
As the new team posed for the obligatory ‘family’ photos outside. The scale of the changes was evident, more than 28 variations in personnel and portfolio responsibility.
Including a total of nine woman in the full Turnbull Ministry, and it wouldn’t be politics, without the baby!
