The star player, failed a fitness test today.

Rex Lee reports.

The man many called our ‘best footballer’ has been suffering a shoulder injury.

He has already missed three games with Melbourne Storm.

He looked comfortable during training with the Kangaroo squad this morning.

But made the agonising decision to withdraw.

Billy Slater, Kangaroos fullback: “I’m not going to go out and be a liability for the side, I will make sure I’m confident and play my role.”

Greg Inglis will now wear Slater’s number one jersey.

Allowing Michael Jennings to slot into the centre.

In AFL, the hits keep on coming for the win-less Gold Coast Suns.

Key mid-fielder David Swallow is now out, for up to 10 weeks, with a knee strain.

Better news down in North Melbourne.

Todd Goldstein revealed that Daniel Wells should be right to take on Hawthorn this weekend.

Todd Goldstein, North Melbourne: “I thought he was a good chance this week, obviously they’re taking a bit of a cautionary approach, but yeah, I think players like him and Jamie, I think they’re very close, it’s just about making sure they tick all the boxes.”

And Carlton star, Chris Judd, has admitted he feared for his safety, when he was attacked by an Essendon fan in Melbourne.
