Welcome to our second QUT News special on the G20, the global summit that will showcase Brisbane to the world, brought to you by a team of journalism students from QUT.

Brisbane Airport’s G20 terminal was very active today as the majority of international leaders arrived for the summit.

In response to the trickle of world leaders descending into Brisbane, a torrent of protesters have hit the street with their own agenda. Hundreds of people rallied against Aboriginal deaths in custody, with tempers often flaring under the close watch of police.

Australia’s treatment of the Barrier Reef has been questioned in the lead up to the G20. National and international media took the chance to call out the State Government on its actions.

The International Media Centre has opened its doors to a flood of journalists, camera and technician crews. The purpose-built site will operate 24 hours a day and broadcast to the world.

It isn’t all serious politics for G20. Brisbane has come alive with a feast for all the senses.
