Shock news in AFL, Gold Coast Suns coach, Guy McKenna, has been shown the door with one year remaining on his contract.

His likely replacement? Essedon’s interim coach Mark Thompson.

The Suns revealed their decision this afternoon.

Chairman John Witheriff said ending the tenure of the club’s first coach was mutual.

He thanked McKenna for his efforts.

John Witheriff, Suns Chairman: “After six years with the club he will leave us knowing his legacy is our club’s future.”

Guy McKenna, Sacked Suns Coach: “As a senior coach, as an assistant coach as a player no one is bigger than the club, and I so I respect John’s findings I respect his decision.”

Speculation over a replacement has already begun.

Mark Thompson, tipped to rejoin his former Geelong player Gary Ablett, on the Gold Coast.

In NRL rookie Apisai Koroisau will fill Isaac Luke’s starting spot for the Rabbitohs in this weekend’s Grand Final.

He was found guilty of a grade one throwing charge by the judiciary last night and given a two match ban.

21 year old Koroisa will now play on the NRL’s biggest stage in only his 14th first grade game on the sport’s biggest stage.
