A man from Perth in Western Australia was evacuated from an erupting volcano in the Philippines yesterday which killed five people and injured several others.

Bali bombing survivor Ewan Marshall, from Bull Creek, dodged death for a second time on Tuesday when lava started flowing from Mt Mayon as he was climbing it with his girlfriend.

Mr Marshall and his girlfriend were about halfway up at base camp when they heard a massive explosion and took about an hour-and-a-half to get down to a safe area.

“When we found out it was a real eruption, it was a bit worrying whether we would get out in time,”  Mr Marshall said.

“We’re lucky, I just feel sorry for the people that weren’t.”
