Malthouse is on his way to legend status, currently fifty games away from the record for most games as a senior coach.
But he’s been forced to deny claims he was approached by Carlton weeks before the sacking of their former coach, Brett Ratten.
Mick Malthouse, New Carlton Coach: “I still believe that you guys are not believing what we’re saying. I had my first meeting with Carlton last week.”
Malthouse starts in the role November 1.
In League, Manly Sea Eagles star centre Steve Matai will miss Friday’s semi-final against the Cowboys due to suspension.
He chose not to appeal a grade two high tackle charge against Canterbury’s Sam Perrett.
Manly may also lose co-captain Jamie Lyon who has two days to prove his fitness after straining his calf muscle in last Friday’s qualifying final against Canterbury.
