The cars took to the concrete jungle of the Gold Coast street circuit hard and fast, with the skills of some of the best drivers in the world put on the line.

The presence of Premier Anna Bligh in the pit lane saw the drivers come to a grinding halt as she unveiled the Armour All Gold Coast 600 trophy.

Anna Bligh, Qld Premier: “This is going to be a terrific event; people have really got behind it. You can feel the excitement, the drivers are excited, the fans are out in full, it’s going to be a great weekend.”

The Miss V8 Supercar girls were out in force, to the delight of many.

Others were just happy to just cruise around the circuit. They even managed to get in a bit of their own pit lane action.

But when all the commotion gets a little too much, there’s nothing better than pulling up a beanbag for a rest stop.

Although the event sports a new name and format it’s unanimous what people are here for.

Vox 1: “Boobs, bums and fast cars.”

Vox 2: “Enjoy the atmosphere here and get amongst it, that’s what we’re here for.”

Vox 3: “Seeing more of the Jim Bean girls coming around.”

The ground is trembling under the deafening roar of the engines and it’s only the beginning. Main races kick off tomorrow and Sunday at 1:35pm.

With the likes of Dick Johnson, the legends of Australian Motorsport were out in force ready to bring some old school driving class to the new track.

Jim Richards, V* Legends Driver: “I don’t mind it, it brings the cars around spectators more often so that’s good.”

Tickets for the event are from as little thirty three dollars.
