After their maiden finals victory over the Warriors on Friday night, the Titans were straight back to work today, after spending the weekend keeping a close eye on their competition.
Preston Campbell, Titans Fullback: “I haven’t watched much footy all year, they’re probably the only two games I’ve watched all the way through and, obviously I was cheering for the Roosters and I was cheering for the Raiders.”
The Titans have an extra week to warm up for the all-important preliminary final.
Coach John Cartwright believes the extended break could make all the difference.
John Cartwright, Titans Coach: “It you had of asked us last week, could we get straight through with the week off, we would’ve taken it with both hands, you know, it’s that time of year and all clubs are hurting.”
After sitting out the Warriors game with an ongoing hamstring complaint, Preston Campbell trained away from the main group today.
Skipper Scott Prince, is also under an injury cloud.
While Campbell says the extra week should see him fit for the final in Brisbane, his coach said there are no guarantees.
John Cartwright, Titans Coach: “You just can’t tell with hamstrings, you know, we were hopeful he’d be right last week, we were hopeful he’d be right the week before.”
The Titans will tackle the winner of the Roosters – Panthers clash this week but Campbell says their focus is not on the opposition.
Preston Campbell, Titans Fullback: “We’ve played both teams and we’ve beaten both teams this year so it’s just a matter of, I think, going out and worrying about our game.”
The Panthers have been hit hard by injuries – Trent Waterhouse out for the season and Pritchard and Grant in doubt for next week while the Roosters will be focusing on recovery after their epic match with the Tigers went into extra-time.
