Fire services worked hard into the evening to contain a fire at the Olympic Circuit Complex in Southport before it spread to neighbouring businesses.

Damage to the health and fitness complex is thought to be in excess of a quarter of a million dollars with one business being destroyed.

Mark Gribble, SEQ Fire and Rescue: “This morning in the light of day we see there is certainly significant damage in three of the tenancies and smoke damage throughout the rest of the building.”

Police say there’s been two previous fires and multiple break-ins at the complex in the last two weeks.

It is not yet known whether the fires are linked, but investigations are continuing.

Mark Gribble, SEQ Fire and Rescue: “We’ll be doing a collective investigation between police and fire, and given it’s previous and recent history we’ll be looking at all aspects of fire investigation on this fire.”

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers.
