Qantas CEO grilled by Senate

Qantas Chief Executive Officer, Alan Joyce, has been grilled at a Senate inquiry in Sydney over the grounding of the entire Qantas fleet last Saturday.

And in further bad news for the airline engine trouble has forced a Qantas A380 flight from Singapore to London to land in Dubai.

People smugglers arrested

Indonesian police have arrested crew members of an asylum seeker boat which sank off the coast of west Java on Tuesday.

Of the 60 people on board, eight died, and another four remain missing.

After two evictions, 11 arrests and up to $30,000 in damage Brisbane City Council is finally cracking down.

SES volunteers to be recognised

QUT researchers are combining sensor technology with helicopter design to create pint-sized surveillance robots.

Occupy Brisbane saga continues

The Queensland Premier Anna Bligh says the Occupy Brisbane protesters are no longer welcome in the Central Business District and should move on.

This morning Police forcibly removed the protesters from Queen’s Park but the group has now moved to another inner city location.

Ombudsman criticises Hendra response

The Queensland Ombudsman says there have been systematic failures in several Government departments, in dealing with the Hendra virus outbreaks between 2006 and 2009.

One of the key recommendations of the Ombudsman’s report – is for a review of state laws to see whether they are adequate to control future outbreaks of the virus.

Public hospitals going backwards

The Australian Medical Association says public hospitals around the country are going backwards despite extra funding.

According to the AMA’s annual report card, hospitals in every state including Queensland are failing to meet key benchmarks.
