Strictly good time

Love was in the air on the Queen Street Mall today with shoppers being treated to a performance by the cast of Strictly Ballroom.

Adapted from Baz Luhrmann’s classic movie the producers say it’ll get you dancing in the aisles.

Bright colours, high pony tails and sequins were strictly in order at the mall today.

Shoppers were mesmerised as cast members danced and sang their way through one of the favourite songs used in the show.

Vox 1: “Loved the costumes, the energy, the dancing, marvelous, I think they’re all fabulous.”

Vox 2: “Amazing. They’re so good. So bright. So sparkley. I just couldn’t stop watching them when they danced, it was awesome.”

480 shows in nationally, stars Phoebe Panaretos and Thomas Lacey are still loving the experience.

Phoebe Panaretos, “Fran”: “We’ve been to Sydney and Melbourne and Brisbane is like our nice reward for a really long run.”

She says being part of an Australian icon is what makes it special.

Phoebe Panaretos, “Fran”: “Oh it’s incredible, I mean most musicals, pretty much every musical to see is from Broadway or the West End and Strictly Ballroom is 100% Australian, written by Australians, performed by Australians.”

They signed autographs after the performance and some lucky shoppers even walked away with a double pass to see the show.

With Strictly Ballroom at QPAC until October 17, there’s still plenty of time to get in and get your tickets.

Be sure not to miss out on this theatrical masterpiece.
